Infants’ TYLENOL Oral Suspension, 1 oz. Grape: Recall - Dosing System Complaints

ISSUE: McNeil Consumer Healthcare notified the public of a recall of seven lots (approximately 574,000 bottles) of Infants’ TYLENOL Oral Suspension, 1 oz. Grape. There were complaints from consumers who reported difficulty using the Infants’ TYLENOL SimpleMeasure dosing system. Suicide Prevention
Facebook Provides First-of-a-Kind Service To Help Prevent Suicides
SAMHSA and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline are collaborating with Facebook to help those in crisis.
In partnership with the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Facebook is announcing a new service that harnesses the power of social networking and crisis support to help prevent suicides across the Nation and Canada. The new service enables Facebook users to report a suicidal comment they see posted by a friend to Facebook using either the Report Suicidal Content link or the report links found throughout the site. The person who posted the suicidal comment will then immediately receive an email from Facebook encouraging them to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or to click on a link to begin a confidential chat session with a crisis worker.

About the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention
The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) is the public-private partnership advancing the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. The Action Alliance envisions a Nation free from the tragic experience of suicide. Learn More

Boozy Bears PSA from Poison Center

Be Aware of Boozy Bears

The Nebraska Regional Poison Center would like to make parents and teachers aware of a new internet trend called “boozy bears” and “drunk gummies”. There have been thousands of hits on internet sites teaching teens how to change this gummi-type candy into a vodka-infused candy. The candy absorbs the alcohol and teens are able to take their bag of “candy” anywhere. Parents and teachers would find it difficult to detect this type of alcohol use. It would take only a couple of handfuls to raise a teen’s blood alcohol level to a dangerous situation.

Alcohol poisoning symptoms can include slurred speech, confusion, lack of coordination, double vision, nausea, vomiting, seizures, low body temperature, slowed breathing rate, coma and death.

The Poison Center has not yet received any calls on this.  Social media, the internet and digital communication have made this a very different world.  Parents and teachers need to be aware of the new alcohol and drug abuse trends.

If you have any questions, please call the Nebraska Regional Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Don't Hesitate - Report Child Abuse or Neglect

Don’t Hesitate - Report Child Abuse or Neglect

Lincoln - Recently questions have been asked about when to call the Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline at 1-800-652-1999.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), state law* says that anyone who has reasonable cause to believe a child has been subjected to child abuse or neglect, or observes conditions that reasonably would result in child abuse or neglect, is obligated to report the information to law enforcement or the DHHS hotline.

“When in doubt, always call the child abuse hotline at 1-800-652-1999,” said Kerry Winterer, CEO of DHHS.

Based on the findings, trained law enforcement officers and DHHS staff can then do their investigations and see if the child is experiencing abuse or neglect.

When someone calls the hotline, a specially trained worker goes through an extensive list of questions, gathering all of the information needed to determine if an investigation should occur.

There is not a risk to the caller because names of callers are kept confidential.

Because investigations are also confidential, the caller may not know if action is taken or an investigation is conducted.

“Please keep reporting it if you think a child is in danger,” Winterer said. “DHHS keeps all reports, so even if one situation doesn’t meet the definition of abuse or neglect, you can help establish a pattern over time that may in itself trigger an investigation.”
